"Get your ducks in a row"
12/07/2021

The idiom “get your ducks in a row” essentially means to be well prepared or well organized for something that is going to happen.

There are a few theories behind the origin of this expression: Real ducklings, of course, walk in a line behind their parent and certainly this image comes immediately to your mind. But the most popular theory is that the idiom comes from the world of sports, specifically bowling. Early bowling pins were often shorter and thicker than modern pins, which led to the nickname ducks. Before the advent of automatic resetting machines, these "duck pins" would be manually put back into place between bowling rounds. Therefore, having one's ducks in a row would be a metaphor for having all the bowling pins organized and properly placed before sending the next ball down the lane.

However, if we take the expression "get your ducks in a row" and apply it to gastronomy, or rather the kitchen, we can apply it to the “mise en place” or the general organization. Good preparation already begins in the storage area or in the refrigeration cells. All groceries must be stored correctly and in a hygienic manner, and good organization is a great advantage, as no time is lost searching for the desired products.

Most storage spaces and refrigeration cells are equipped with simple, basic shelving systems. Often, they are not adapted to the current needs, purpose or even the available space.

Quatro shelving systems are the exact opposite: we offer customizable stainless steel shelving for refrigeration cells; the number of levels and the dimensions are precisely adapted to your specific needs.

Exactly the same applies to magazines or storage rooms; for these we have ideal solutions in chrome-plated steel with height-adjustable levels.
